Austin and I had our first appointment today.

The ultrasound was completely AMAZING! We got to see and hear our baby's heart beat. Incredible, Awesome, Sobering... words are inadequate to describe that moment.

Our official due date is April 13, 2012.

And for Matt and Marissa, we will do our best to tell baby to not come on April 5th or 6th so you don't lose your birthday:) And Grandpa we will tell it to come early so you don't lose yours either.

China Mission Trip

Hello everyone!

In January of 2006 I was privileged to be a part of a mission trip to the Philippines. It was definitely a life-changing experience! Wonderful, WONDERFUL memories! As of yesterday afternoon another missions opportunity was extended to my wife and I...to CHINA! Our dogs Shadow and Mocha dug a hole so deep we heard faint Mandarin...upon further investigation, we realized they had dug all the way to the capital city of Beijing. If anyone would like to accompany us on our China mission trip please let us know asap! We may need to make the hole a little bigger...

She's a few weeks younger than shadow...boxer mix.....sweetest dog ever. It's wonderful......yea amazing how much Shadow has calmed down since we got the new one!! :) Hopefully she's done shredding our trees, plants, nerves, etc. Only bad thing......I now have double duty on the pooper-scooper..............blech.

A Letter from Camp...

I came across this letter while doing some planning/research for JR Camp 2011...hope you enjoy (especially you parents with 9-11 year olds). I'm thinking about adding it to the pre-camp registration packet. lol

Dear Mom & Dad:

We are having a great time here at Lake Typhoid. Scoutmaster Webb is making us all write to our parents in case you heard about the flood and worried. We are OK. Only 1 of our tents and 2 sleeping bags got washed away. Luckily, none of us got drowned because we were all up on the mountain looking for Chad when it happened. Oh yes, please call Chad's mother and tell her he is OK. He can't write because of the cast. I got to ride in one of the search & rescue jeeps. It was neat. We never would have found him in the dark if it hadn't been for the lightning. Scoutmaster Webb got mad at Chad for going on a hike alone without telling anyone. Chad said he did tell him, but it was during the fire so he probably didn't hear him. Did you know that if you put gas on a fire, the gas can will blow up? The wet wood still didn't burn, but one of our tents did. Also some of our clothes. John is going to look weird until his hair grows back. We will be home on Saturday if Scoutmaster Webb gets the car fixed. It wasn't his fault about the wreck. The brakes worked OK when we left. Scoutmaster Webb said that a car that old you have to expect something to break down; that's probably why he can't get insurance on it. We think it's a neat car. He doesn't care if we get it dirty; and if it's hot, sometimes he lets us ride on the tailgate. It gets pretty hot with 10 people in a car. He let us take turns riding in the trailer until the highway patrolman stopped and talked to us. Scoutmaster Webb is a neat guy. Don't worry, he is a good driver. In fact, he is teaching Terry how to drive. But he only lets him drive on the mountain roads where there isn't any traffic. All we ever see up there are logging trucks. This morning all of the guys were diving off the rocks and swimming out in the lake. Scoutmaster Webb wouldn't let me because I can't swim and Chad was afraid he would sink because of his cast, so he let us take the canoe across the lake. It was great. You can still see some of the trees under the water from the flood. Scoutmaster Webb isn't crabby like some scoutmasters. He didn't even get mad about the life jackets. He has to spend a lot of time working on the car so we are trying not to cause him any trouble. Guess what? We have all passed our first aid merit badges. When Dave dove in the lake and cut his arm, we got to see how a tourniquet works. Also Wade and I threw up. Scoutmaster Webb said it probably was just food poisoning from the leftover chicken. I have to go now. We are going into town to mail our letters and buy bullets. Don't worry about anything. We are fine.

Our First Cruise

Wow!! Now that was fun! An exciting week of eating, relaxing, laughing, eating, sightseeing, eating, eating, eating........and more eating. I think everyone hung out at the buffet more than anywhere else. Every time we turned around we were headed for another meal/snack. Chan nearly devoured the ship's supply of watermelon, pineapple, and soft serve ice cream....while I took on the weightier items....chicken, steak, pasta, et cetera. I also took on the task of cleaning out their stock of skim milk and orange juice....and I think between the two of us the ketchup supply was quickly depleted. With all the buffet-ing we engaged in, we were a little nervous about stepping on the ol' scale Saturday evening. According to this article, the average weight gain on a cruise is 2lbs per day. Our cruise departed on Saturday and returned the following Saturday...7 days. So if my calluge edjumakated brain is working correctly...7 days multiplied by 2lbs per day = 14 cotton-pickin' pounds!! Like I said, we were a bit hesitant about "weighing in." But by George....the scale was kind and said I only gained a little under 2lbs...and Chan stayed the same. WHEW! So enough about the food...the rest of the trip was great too. :) Our cruise-ship, the Norwegian Star, was very nice, and our cruise-director (Jamie) and crew were top-notch! We enjoyed several performances during the week...including amazing acrobats, an incredible illusionist, a hilarious hypnotist ("PLEASE, give me my butt back!" LOL), side-splitting improv comedians...great entertainment! We were also "blessed" (lol) by a talent show put on by the crew. Most of the acts were pretty good.....minus Mr. Sweet Angel and his Magic Ladder. Some chunky guy dressed up like an angel (looked like he used a tablecloth from one of the restaurants) and did some interesting ballet up-and-down his utility ladder and back-and-forth across the stage. I don't think he meant for it to be comedy.......but brother......it was forevermore a riot!! We were doubled over in our seats laughing our heads off. When we finally regained our composure, we started cheering loudly for the fella'....I think it was the hardest we laughed during the entire trip. So whoever you are...wherever you are...thank you Mr. Sweet Filipino Angel for making our night! lol During the same performance, the crew did a skit that we will definitely use for a future youth event....VERY funny!! We made three port-calls while on the cruise...1) Cabo San Lucas - 2) again...Cabo San Lucas - and 3) Puerta Vallarta. We were originally scheduled to make a port-call in Mazalan, but it was canceled due to high crime and recent violent incidents...thus having two stops at Cabo. The only negatives of the trip were the crazy spring break-ers and the bigggg-ish folks who for some reason thought they should sport speedos and bathing suits...wowzers...there should be a law against that in public. But overall, the trip was wonderful...we had a great time. And as always, it's good to be back home!!

Senior citizen acitivities......

For the past couple weeks, Chantelle and I have engaged in some senior citizen activities.....namely jigsaw puzzles. I really don't have a good explanation.......but 2 down...working on the 3rd. One explanation.......we're lame. lol We did pick out some neato designs......so Chan's thinking of framing/hanging them in our music room. Yes......we're lame. :)

UNBELIEVABLE DRIVE HOME FROM WORK last night. There were CARS abandoned everywhere and some rednecks just left theirs in the middle of the road! I prayed just about the whole way home and by the time we got home had no blood flow to my hands because they were clenched so hard. I am really not even sure how we got our car into the neighborhood. There were several times we should have got stuck or slid off the road.

We did get stuck twice. Kip n Deb, Derrick, and Bro. Bible came and helped dig us out. But only for us to get stuck again in our neighborhood. We were rednecks and did leave our car abandoned in the middle of the road and ran the rest of the way home.

YAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY!!! Austin finally got our car dug out and pulled into the garage!

Who wants to spend their birthday at work... not me. But surprisingly it was a really good day.

It started out with Austin getting up early with me and taking me to work (so I wouldn't have to drive on the roads). That was really sweet! We did have to work short staffed because one of our nurses ended up in a ditch on the drive in to work. But that still wasn't that bad.

I made a haul... Austin brought me in flowers, balloons, and STARBUCKS. My parents sent flowers and balloons. Plus my boss bought me lunch from Pei Wei and one of my nursing friends brought me another Starbucks.... plus all the little treats and birthday wishes from everyone. I was sitting behind these balloons, everyone kept walking by and saying "is it your birthday?".... duh people, that's what the balloons say. hahaha.

And my phone blew up. I don't think I have ever had that many text messages and phone calls in one day.... THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR THE BIRTHDAY WISHES!

Can't wait until tonight.... we are celebrating with our family at PF Changs... my favorite.

Cancun Pictures

^Captain Hook dinner cruise.

The large sinkhole we stopped at before our Chichen Itza Tour. It was beautiful and HUGE. They let the tourist (after they showered) swim in the water. Everyone was instructed to NOT touch the roots hanging down as it would kill them.

This is a picture of the original temple they found (I believe this year). Apparently the Mayans built a smaller temple and when they began expanding they built a larger temple (El Castillo) over the top of this one.

One of the sites where we stopped. Our vacation was awesome. But if everything else would have been a dud, Chichen Itza would have been worth the whole trip. This place is truely amazing and full of tradition and history.

This is the sports arena where two teams of royalty competed against each other to get a rubber ball into a stone ring set in the side of this wall. At the conclusion of the game, the loser was sacrificed as a worthy sacrifice to the sun to ensure that life/sun continued.

Another of the sites we stopped at... there were I believe 8 different sites we saw. The astrology building was awesome. We don't have a picture on here. The building was obviously a place for the Mayans to view the sky. They would meticulously chart out where the stars were generation after generation. Interestingly enough the door to the building was not centered in the building was at a angle degree to the right. On December 21st of every year (winter solstice) the sun would shine through this door and illuminate the inside. It only happened the one time a year and symbolized the birth of a new sun.

This site was the most amazing, consisting of 91 steps on four sides and the top layer (which counted as one) to equal the number 365 (the calendar year). The Mayans were obsessed with time and had three different calendars they kept. The indentations on the sides of each step were 40 (which was the gestation calendar they kept). The side we are standing on is the side the sun shines on. The side to the left is the side that is always shaded. On Summer Solstice the sunshine goes over far enough that it creates the illusion of a snake on the side of the stairs of the shaded side.

Interestingly enought the same day of all their 3 calendars only occures every 57? years. The calendar is said to start over again on December 21, 2012 and Mayans and some historians believe that this is when the end of world will be (they believe the Earth will be wiped out by a flood).

Sorry for the history lesson, this place was just SO awesome and awe inspiring.

^This was taken on our last full day in Cancun. We went to some of the shops and plazas. This is in front of the Chocolate Factory... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I would recommend Cancun for anyone. This was a once in a lifetime trip. I'm so thankful we got to go.

DAY 5 CANCUN

Buenos Dias!

We spent the few hours we had this morning at the beach. This place is amazingly beautiful and very relaxing. I'm a little sad to leave but very thankful for a vacation and a chance to relax and very ready to get back to America and our house. Adios

We started the day as usual...another wonderful, fresh breakfast at our hotel. Next, we spent a couple relaxing hours at the beach.....mid 80's...cool water...light breeze.....it was the perfect day. After that, we got cleaned up and went....where else??? Shopping. We caught the bus and went down to the more upscale shopping plazas......Luxury Avenue & La Isla. We grabbed a quick lunch at Chilis and ate dinner at a REALLY GOOD Mexican restaurant called Hacienda Sisal Mexican Grill......by far the BEST food we've had this week! After dinner we decided to walk ALL the way back to our hotel......wrong choice.....we ended up walking 6+ miles...........plus the combined miles we walked throughout the day...........I think we've walked more this week than the whole year combined.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY ::::: On our long journey back to our hotel, Chan and I experienced something we've never experienced before........someone being hit by a car. We were walking along the hotel zone minding our own business......and out of nowhere we hear.....THUD....CRASH...etc.........oh....and someone screaming "JESUS" about ten times......oh wait, that was Chan. The poor lady flew through the air and landed a few feet in front of the car.......I found her shoes several yards down the street. All I could think was "GET SOME LEAVES!!!" (Brian Regan reference). Thankfully, she only broke her leg....could've been a lot worse!

ONE YEAR OF WONDERFUL MARRIAGE COMES TO AN END..........WE LOVE IT!!!!

Day 3 Cancun! Subtitle: Long bus rides.......

Another great day in paradise.......minus the (combined) 4 hr bus ride.

We started the day (at 6am) with another awesome breakfast....consisting of mostly FRESH fruit. We then hopped aboard a chartered bus bound for Chichen Itza (Spanglish: Chicken Pizza). Chichen Itza is home to one of the 7 wonders of the world...."El Castillo" ("The Castle"). On route to the site we stopped at another tourist attraction...a HUGE sink-hole. We stopped a second time to eat an "authentic" Mexican meal....................it left MUCH to be desired!

When we finally arrived at our destination we were not disappointed.......Chichen Itza was amazing. See photos below.

Tomorrow is relaxing/shopping/beach day!! Can't wait!!

Day 2 CANCUN! Subtitle: I LOVE AMERICA!

Day 2 Cancun:

Today we slept in, ate a huge breakfast, spent some time at the beach, walked 5 km to our dinner boat, and spent 3 hrs on Captain Hook's boat. A very good day overall. Lashel you would have loved breakfast..... all fresh fruit.

After being in Mexico for only one day I must say that I LOVE AMERICA! You know your not in America when you take a bus that is packed full of people and some of them are hanging out windows and door. You know your not in America when the speed limit says 70 km/hr but must just be a suggestion because the drivers barrel down the road at mock ten. You know your not in America when you have keep your eyes closed to keep yourself from shouting "JESUS" every time the driver turns a corner and nearly wipes out signs, pedestrians and other cars. You know your not in America when the bus driver just runs through red lights. And you know your not in American when the driver takes off before you have a chance to reach for the rail and take a seat, that is if you are lucky enough to get a seat. AND EVERYONE ACTS LIKE THIS IS SO NORMAL? Let just say that I am definitely more thankful that I have a country called America to call my home.

Sidenote: Everything here is EXPENSIVE. 27 pesos for a candy bar... that's $2.50! Ridiculous. Yesterday we paid 270 pesos for a meal of 3 tiny chicken strips, 4 small tortillos, and a scoop tortillo chip with a spoonful of beans, one can soda and a bottle water. That was $25!

Tomorrow we are headed to the Chichen Itza Ruins (or something like that). Adios until tomorrow.

Hola AMIGOS! After two plane rides, security, baggage screened twice, immigration, customs, and wading through hordes and yes I do mean HORDES of Mexicans trying to get us to purchase their products at the airport, we FINALLY made it to our resort. This place is beautiful. We are staying at the Westin Resort and Spa, very adobe in style and a little dated but overall very nice. We have an ocean view, privacy balcony room.... oh la la. :) It was in the 70's today but a little windy. Tomorrow we are going on our dinner cruise, CAPTAIN HOOK! Adios

It's hard to believe that it is Christmas time again! Crazy to think that last year around this time we were in a frenzy trying to get everything ready for the wedding. So glad that's an only once in a lifetime deal.

We decorated our tree Thanksgiving night. It was so much fun. We stayed up until 3am working on it and rearranging our furniture to accommodate it. I must say that all those wedding decorations came in very handy... here is the silver and white stuff left over from the wedding and now on our tree.

Only a few more days until Cancun! And only a few more days to finish Christmas shopping!

We had a very good Thanksgiving. I'm so glad my mom and dad came home for a while. It would not have been the same without them.

^This is the neatest painting on a building. I thought of Matt when I took this. We walked around downtown in Fresno Friday morning. Everywhere we went were Mexican shops and everything was in Spanish. I was shocked to find something in English.

This is at the LA garment district. It was like being in a foreign country. Seventy five cents to use the bathroom and then you have to wait in line for FOREVER! Everything is in Spanish... I think the vendors could tell we were gringos because we didn't find any good deals.

EARTHQUAKE?!?

Wow...an earthquake in Oklahoma! First they said it was a 4.3....then a 4.5....then a 5.1.........who knows?? All I know is that it was kinda weird when I noticed my desk shaking and my monitor rattling. A constant stream of people were calling in to the radio stations to give their experience of the quake. After hours of "live team coverage" of this "BIG" earthquake...I thought it'd be appropriate to make fun of the hype by creating a t-shirt..........nothing like sarcasm! :) I'm sure I could market these to AM-740KRMG listeners! lol

So everyone keeps asking when we are going to have kids. Standard question, must get it at least once a day from someone. That and "how long is your hair". DESTEST the questions.

But last week at work I decided that those weren't that bad compared to "Honey, are you pregnant?" W W W H H H A A A T T T do I LOOK pregnant. Apparently I did. I took comfort in the fact that the lady was old and nearly blind. I now have down sized on the amt of flushes, alcohol and caps I put in my top scrub pockets. And the pager has made the move down to the skirt pocket. Which the scrub skirt is an etirely different detest and for all you girls that wear scrub skirts you know. Mine used to be navy blue but have turned into a lighter blue with fraying and worn seams. IT's SO HARD to find a comfortable, nice scrub skirt. Thankfully, Lashel has recruited Lindsay to make us some, I can't wait.

So for everyone that keeps asking when we are going to have kids.... this is the announcement......

FIVE days in our new house! We signed papers on Wednesday at 10am and had everything moved into our house by 3:30pm! That's some fast moving. It took two trips with the uhaul. Thanks to Brian and Brandon Hardman, Derrick, and my mom and dad for helping us move and unpack all those boxes. And a special thanks to Austin's parents for helping us get fans up and blinds and hanging rods and curtains up. :) The only thing we have left is hanging stuff on the walls... as you can tell they are very bare. Garage door opener goes in tomorrow. A HOUSE IS A LOT OF WORK! We have watered our yard non stop and it still looks a little brown. A sprinkler system is a MUST very soon. Looks like we are going to have to wrack those overtime hours up again. :) I feel very lucky and blessed. We have a nice house and we didn't even break the bank. Sometimes I get overwhelmed at all the blessings. Now the race is on to see how fast we can pay our house off. :)

We had our new home orientation today. It's unbelievable but the inside of the house is completely done except for a few touchups!! :) Our final sign off and closing is still scheduled for Wednesday, July 21st. Crazy huh! Time has flown. Oklahoma weather is not cooperating with the landscaping contractor. They are praying it quits raining soon so they can get our yard in before closing.

We got bad news last week. They moved our closing day to July 21. Which is good because we close but bad because June 30th was the cut off day for the tax credit. Yesterday Chris called Austin and told us that he just received a letter from the government that the cut off day has been moved to October 31st! Which means we still get the tax credit!! We were both VERY happy! Yesterday we went to the house... painted walls and siding, counter tops, granite tops, stained cabinets... it is MOVING fast. CANT WAIT! Just a little over a month.

We decided to have it on our 6 mo instead of waiting a year and boy am I glad we did... It is only a little freezer burnt. I can only imagine what it will taste like in another six months.

I came home from work late and here's what I found... awwww such a sweetheart.

Ladies... I have found what we need for tent revivals! This is a small attachment that you put on your heel to increase the surface so you don't sink down in the grass and it also keeps your heel nice and clean. :)

It's OFFICIAL!!! Austin is graduating on May 10th at the Pavilion at 7:00pm!!! OH HALLELUJAH! I don't know if this is more anticipated then our wedding was or not. :) I was so excited I opened the delivery box for Austin. It is official! We decided to go ahead and start building our house. We met with our relator this morning to sign the papers and pick out our carpet, tile, colors, etc. It was a lot of fun. We decided to go with the floor plan we liked most...the Kennedy.....feels a lot bigger than the other options.

Here are a couple pics of the subdivision...more to come shortly. Chris (our relator) said that it will take a few weeks for the building to actually start...something about building permits, etc. Our projected completion date is July 15....WE CANNOT WAIT!!!!

Updates from Austin and Chan's world

So Austin and I went to look at houses again on Saturday. We love our apartment but is definately getting smaller by the day. We thought it was HUGE when we moved all our stuff in. But now there is NO SPACE FOR ANYTHING ELSE. We went to Southern Reserves neighborhood over on 33rd and found two floor plans that we really like. Our favorite was definately the Kennedy but it is just a little more expensive then the Carnegie. If we can stay on track with our finances, we are going to start building in two months! Perfect timing since the house will be completed before November when our 12 month lease at Nickel Creek is up!! We are both so excited and want to start building RIGHT NOW.... patience will pay off though.

I like the utility room in this floor plan better. It is 1432 SQ FT. We didn't actually get to see this house completed. We walked through one that was being sheetrocked. The salesman said that the kitchen and dinning room had an open feeling like the Kennedy.

This is actually the floor plan of their model home. It was by far our favorite floor plan with the wide open kitchen and living room. We really liked the split floor plan as well with the master bedroom on the opposite side of the bedrooms/office. It is 1400 SQ FT.

My parents/sisters are moving this weekend. Lashel bought a house! (which was one of our inspirations for looking at houses on Saturday). Im trying to figure out how I can manage to get the organ up here in the apartment. Maybe in the middle of the living room??? *right, Austin will not go for that one*. You don't realize how much junk you have until you have to start packing it. My mom has three hundred lids to bowls that she had like 20 years ago!!! Just in case she might ever have an ancient bowl like that again. Lashel is off tomorrow so I am sure the packing will be much more organized tomorrow.

Austin and I BOTH love his new job. :) We were going over the benefit package today. HALLELUJAH we are going to finally have insurance! Which is going to be very handy to help pay for all the prescription and office visits for the 200 sinus infections I've had since we've been married.

I made a cheesecake today per Austin's request. Next time I will line my oven wrack with foil. The pan I used leaks. :( The apartment filled with smoke and the smoke detectors went off. The cheesecake looks fine. Just hope it doesn't have that smokey flavor (YUCK).

Here's a quick update of AusNChan's world....

#1: THE JOB SEARCH IS FINALLY OVER! I was offered a job at USIS/Hireright (my previous employer) this week. Needless to say, after 4 months of filling out applications, interviewing, etc...I am VERY grateful the search is over. Once I am finished with my Saturday shift....there will be NO MORE on-call and NO MORE cranky nurses (besides my wife LOL). It has definitely been a learning experience working at Flex....I've learned a lot! Hopefully I can take what I've learned and apply it elsewhere.

#2: Marriage is still wonderful....we're still happy after 2.5 months! :) Love you Chan!

#3: REVIVAL has been AWESOME at the Lighthouse Church! Our evangelist (Bro. Betts) is doing a tremendous job!! God is doing WONDERFUL things.

#4: Just an FYI to those with an iPhone and the app "Words with Friends"......my username is AusNChan. Let the beatings begin LOL.

#5: Chan doesn't get off work until 7:15 tonight....so it looks like I'm cooking dinner. Everyone say a prayer for us.
